Author's Cut: Call Of Command
Hey All!
First and foremost this story is part of an anthology for The New Romance Cafe, Darkest Desires: A Dark Mafia Romance Collection for Charity (Romance Café Collection Book 15). It’s a mouthful, *wink wink*.
All kidding aside, this anthology is for charity. Every author involved with this flexed their creative muscles to bring you a truly exquisite collection. And, just like any of the TNRC’s charity collections, all proceeds go to the selected organization. This time it is the Alliance for Hope International. It is one of the leading organizations focused on creating innovative, collaborative, trauma-informed, hope-centered approaches to meeting the needs of survivors of domestic violence, assault, abuse, and human trafficking.
Alliance for Hope International happens to touch on so many reasons I chase the truth, seek opportunities to grow through my own optimism and try to help others in need. I’ve talked about my own issues growing up throughout other groups and stories that I’ve written in plenty of different outlets, one being on Dreame that I will revisit for an Author’s Cut another time. For now, what I can say is that despite the hardships, there is a future past where evil lies in our paths and I think we can all agree that it's absolutely necessary.
Domestic violence was a problem in my house while I was a kid. I’m not knocking teen parents, but mine didn’t understand the value of life when they had me, which was hard to accept being that my siblings weren’t far behind in birth order. Abuse, neglect and abandonment were some of the tactics used and when you’re in it your whole life, it’s crazy what alternatives you’ll be able to consider for self-help. I hear you. I see you, and above all else, you aren't alone.
I feel for anyone that’s gone through similar times with any relationships. I wish you well and that you heal. I hope that those reading this give a second thought to what they may or may not know as their world, and if you do wind up purchasing this story, please rest assured that your donation means someone else is getting the help they need.
That being said, my story is titled, Chain Of Command.
Our two main characters, Detective Gemma Greer and Tristan Giridano fight for dominance in their relationship, not knowing where the other stands. I found it to be an interesting angle for Gemma to be undercover for years with him. Her plan to overthrow him is blinding, like most of our own desires. Tristan on the other hand needs power to remain on top but he feels like his whole world is seconds from crumbling under his feet at all times.
The dynamic isn’t lost on me, of all people. It’s as if I split myself into halves without knowing there’s a full picture somewhere out there. What do I mean by that? Well, have you ever felt that “aha” moment enlightened people talk about? Well, while I was younger, all I could see was where I was, my situation, and it was blinding. Even my controllers would tell me that I had blinders on. It was kind of hard to accept that there was a world out there for me to find my place in after all of it, but the path, however scary, was all I knew.
In this story, all of their time together comes to a head. They have to make impulse decisions for the blind step into their destinies, and that’s what I loved about bringing these two together. Further down the line I hope to reconvene and help them sort out their issues but this, I thought, was an eventful start in a truly intimate way.
Normally, I would make a playlist or report on the music used for this but I found myself going back to the chillstep music found in Howl At The Moon, Love’s playlist. YouTube is funny about recommending these tracks where they weren’t before when I revisit the playlist though. That being said, I’ve linked the most impactful music to the story below:
If I do wind up adding to this story, a longer playlist will be made and it will show up as it's own post like the others.
Thank you for checking this out and if you’re interested, please consider purchasing here.
Coming up next, is the Author’s Cut: Alpha Beach, which is an exclusive story on the Dreame app about a prodigy surfer and her Alpha lifeguard crush. We’ll be going deeper into the story, much like The Legend of the Alpha-Omega as it is longer than this short story.
Until then, happy reading!
