TLOTAO Character Introduction: Ben

Ben is a good, quiet man who comes from a less than stable family. That’s not fair to say but it’s what he thinks, what with his father always out of town and his mother doing her own things. It really didn’t seem to matter how much effort he put into their unit at home. It never amounted to anything. Instead, Ben is hyper focused on his projects, which is why he lands a flexible freelancing job with a leading tech company early on. His job and ideas keep him going since being in the Marines and needing to keep busy. It’s a life of tinkering… and not many potential mates see it as a good thing leaving him high and dry.

This Alpha registers at the top of the line as far as Alphas go. His Alpha’s technical reading is AA, which is entirely found in his genetics and easily retained by way of an over the counter blood test for presentation reasons. There’s no reason to test him, per se, but he does behave differently than all of the Alphas Kayla’s come in contact with. Therefore, to calm her nerves, Ben complies to such a test while she takes her own.

Although his background would suggest it for her, Ben knows better. It doesn’t matter that he was trained as a Marine or that he served. It doesn’t matter that his success in his work has given him the opportunity to be where he is. What matters the most is the way he acts with her.

The night they meet, Ben has miraculously walked away from a near death experience, crashing his car in an unfamiliar place. His presence in Kayla’s shop sends her into heat early which is only known to happen if the Alpha and Omega pairing is meant to be. Like a good Alpha, he grapples with his ability to function around Kayla without kidnapping her to see her through her Heat. Instead, he manages to do as he’s told and returns to her for a chance afterwards, despite how it kills him to do the right thing.

Ben, however, is more than a lean Alpha who could end a life if the mark was right. He’s more than some animal raging around for any piece of meat to feed his appetite. Ben is kind, considerate, protective, and awkward. He’s tall and built like many Alphas are, but he’s also been told by enough courted women that he has flaws that only they can ignore. It’s impacted him enough that he’s made changes to his appearance, growing out his hair so that no one could see what made him self conscious, gotten ink so that he could communicate being tough enough too, but when it came to changing his clothes, he had enough. The expense they claimed that he needed to supply was enough.

Ben had to get out. He had to leave that world behind and never dreamed of actually finding Kayla or her place. He figured he was just out for a joy ride… looking for the joy in his life to return. And when he did find Kayla, a little Beta chased him right back out.

Ben works hard to gain their trust which speaks deeply to Kayla’s family. Ultimately Ben becomes more to Kayla as their history unfolds itself, and their future will only expect more from him, but will he be able to be the same hero she remembers him as?

Up next, the rest of the line up. I would usually give them singly, but these six are my main characters and I would like to make sure that they are separate from the supporting characters that are throughout the rest of The Legend of the Alpha-Omega instead of continuing as I am.

While each and every one of them have their unique reasons they do what they do and help the story progress as it has, it would be better for organization purposes to show them differently going forward.
