The Legend Of The Alpha-Omega's Playlist
The Legend Of The Alpha-Omega does have a distinct playlist and the tracks, unlike in The Omega Witch, are for certain places in the story.
The first seven chapters are silent as she runs through her paces, remembering how she got to her success. It helps her calm down after her nightmares and recount events, reassuring her that she’s okay. I found this to be an important setup and while it certainly gets into traditional writing, it also shows her mental strength and ability to accept change against all odds. In retrospect, the fact that it’s a quiet retelling of her life and story thus far, the fact that there isn’t time for getting loose enough to flow with music is a huge promise that what’s to come will come without warning.
By chapter eight, the major plot line is beginning. Kayla is still focused on the task at hand, her job and dealing with her Omega.
Whatever It Takes - Imagine Dragons is the first track to play in her headphones while she’s fixing her lift.
Nitro (Youth Energy) - The Offspring - This is the song Kayla drives Ben’s car to, finding out exactly what’s wrong with it in front of their line of Alphas that are trying to get hired by this legendary woman and her outstanding garage.
Champion - Fall Out Boy - This one is playing in the background while Ben and Kayla are sorting things out right before he excels her heat forward by two days.
Young and Menace - Fall Out Boy - Both Kayla and Ben have pent up energy and aren’t communicating clearly. She shuts him out for his poor behavior and pushes him away to deal with his car.
Everlong - Foo Fighters - Her patience is thin and finally breaks. She climbs him like a tree and challenges him to take her.
OneRepublic -Counting Stars - This is when Kayla feels rejected because of how Ben responds to her bedroom. In the Reylo version, the lyrics pour through her headphones, *hypothetically* punching Ben in the gut with their meaning. Best Of You - Foo Fighters - This plays in the background as she leaves to walk the catwalk over the hangar to gain space between them.
All My Life - Foo Fighters - This plays in Ben’s POV watching her leave him. He kicks into gear rushing to her side when Arthur attacks her from behind, in her shop. It enrages him but Kayla can’t totally understand his reaction. He’s very clearly giving off mixed signals here and she’s a bad ass anyway. The message hits his Alpha hard.
Last of the Real Ones - Fall Out Boy - Coming out of the hangar into her “side-yard” where Chyanne, Roxi and Pedro are all hanging out by the pool in the high heat of the day.
It’ll Be A Long Time - The Offspring - This is in the background, (low) while Pedro and Kayla talk by the grill. It kind of helps the feel of Pedro explaining what the other Alpha is doing and the intensity between Alphas for her attention.
Not The Way - The Offspring -Kayla realizing she left her gun on her bench, and the danger Pedro is in. She peels out and runs back to the hangar to stop it instead of getting Ben to help. It’s a huge miss-step for an Omega, but this Omega is different and Ben is not able to handle just what that means yet.
Pardon Me - Incubus - In her ears as she finds Arthur holding her pistol and Pedro on his knees. Kayla is about to blow and needs a different track to handle it or she’s going to straight out kill Arthur for hurting her family.
Talking Bodies - Tove Lo - This was actually used with the lyrics in the original Reylo when (Rey) Kayla seduces Arthur. She tricks him into letting her close, takes the gun from him and attacks him for what he did to Pedro.
Sweetness - Jimmy Eat World - This plays in the background when Arthur tries to force his mark on Kayla but Ben collects him before he can. It’s yet another event that breaks up the monotony of creepy Alphas doing shitty things. Her… well, the Alpha she wants keeps teaching her how an Alpha is supposed to behave and Kayla’s not sure how she feels about it.
Lonely Together - Avicii - There’s a lot that happens between the above song and here but this is when Ben and Kayla are in the truck together after the ER.
Way Away - Yellowcard - This is when Frank and Roxi reenter the scene. Frank is not thrilled about the change, even though Chyanne and Roxi *are* for it.
Sweetness - Jimmy Eat World - Playing in the background when Pedro asks Kayla to show off where she learned how to fight the way she does.
Bleed American - Jimmy Eat World - Kayla syncing up with her training videos. This also pulls her through to when she starts feeling the effects of a relapse heat. The song quickly turns to having everyone take this event seriously and going into their positions to take care of Kayla. Ben goes with the guys to pick up the bed from Frank’s and Roxi shows off, yet again, the kind of tenacious Beta she really is.
Good For You - (feat. A$AP Rocky) - This one is with the girls trying to figure out what an Alpha-Omega is. They chat it out about the day and what they noticed about Ben and what he was doing to keep their sister self assured that Ben would be back and take care of her. It’s all very new for Kayla, but she feels ready, even though her body is going through the paces of a heat faster and harder than before.
The Way That I am - Tove Lo - (This song shows up multiple times in the story) The first time it comes up is when Ben comes back to her. Kayla’s Omega eats this up entirely. Their coupling is largely based on this, despite the softer moments throughout.
Another time this comes up Kayla is showing Ben the car she’s working on. This is something she’s put in her own creativity to and driving it at night with the volume up loud enough to shake the entire vehicle is something she’d been dying to do but with the Alpha problem she was handling, kept her from doing what she wanted, so it went abandoned for a while. Returning to it and being able to drive it with Ben is a huge step forward in her own life and their relationship. The other time this comes up is at Phaux’s show where Chyanne and Kayla go for a night ride, showing off the vehicle to all in attendance.
Something Just Like This - The Chainsmokers & Coldplay - This is mostly in the background of Ben’s thoughts while they do have the smaller, sweeter moments where he’s realizing himself and what he actually needs, which is her and the life she has.
Twin Skeletons (Hotel In NYC) - Kayla realizing she got through her entire relapse without Ben’s claim. She’s upset about it but there’s work to do.
Come Down - Bush - Harold teasing Ben about Kayla being too much for him. This is also played while Kayla helps Harold fix up Harold’s
Are You Gonna Go My Way - Lenny Kravitz - Kayla finally gets to play her music on the mounted speakers instead of her headphones after she shares her plans with her family, thanks to Ben’s mark.
Machinehead - Bush -Taking the bikes out for systems check. Chyanne and Pedro go for a ride. His Alpha is given more of a role in Kayla’s family and Pedro is adjusting.
Man In The Box - Alice In Chains - Pedro noticing Kayla’s music once more and never thought of her as a hard rock chick.
What It’s Like - Everlast - Frank and Pedro promising Ben that going into the shed while Kayla’s mad is a death wish.
Believer - Imagine Dragons - Kayla challenging herself to be better after finding Pedro and Chyanne outside; Arthur at her door, and having to deal with him all over again, and how emotions explode thereafter.
Megalomaniac - Incubus - This is when Kayla leaves and tells Ben to go if he can’t handle her. It does come up in other places but not as largely as this one. It does break Ben to see her leave him. This is new though and her family rushes off to handle the breakdown. Every designation is on edge with this one. Kayla deals with being an Alpha-Omega and what that means to her. She feels the need to fix things, even though her entire family is going against what she feels is right…just because she has an Alpha now. It’s really messing her up.
The Chemicals Between Us - Bush - This is the moment she jumps her bike over the cliff to get down to Phaux’s.
Seven Army Nation - White Stripes - Dealing with fixing Ben’s car and swearing up a storm before she meets Laura, Ben’s mother.
Feel Good - Gorillaz - In the background working on their vehicles for Phaux’s.
St. Anger - Metallica - Pedro and Ben as they go after Kayla and find three riders cut them off in the desert. Chyanne taking shots at a SNK transport driver freaks Pedro right out and all at once, he does not know his mate the way he thought he did.
Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Metallica - This is when Ben finds Kayla within an inch of her life in the back of the trailer. The song takes Ben into a really dark place. He does wreak havoc on the men responsible for putting Kayla through her near death experience and into the hospital where Chyanne puts Roxi in charge and goes to handle the case on her own. Pedro cannot possibly understand and forbids her from going, but Chyanne is more than what he knows.
Lux Imperia - Ivan Torrent - Roxi breaking the news to Pedro about Chyanne and her special ops services throughout her life. Getting out was one thing. Going back in to end this was going to be another. Pedro doesn’t take it well. This also goes over Chyanne’s tailing and entry to the facility, what she’s able to accomplish, memories of her brother and just how they used to perform in the field despite how much of an ass he could be.
Crossfire - Steven - Chyanne finding out what’s happening in Andrew’s facility and her desire to end it, and him.
The Monster (feat. Rihana) - Eminem - Kayla addressing the public through the news to explain what she is, that she’s not alone, and what people have done to her in a testimony that ruins the remainder of Andrew’s business. This also is applied to Chyanne back at headquarters being relieved of duty officially. She’s pardoned and flown back to Kayla’s hangar with her higher ups to hope that it may be respected enough to be welcomed back. Pedro is blown away. His Alpha feels like it’s shattering and being built back up over and over again but overall he can’t believe she came back to him.
Feel It Still - Portugal. The Man - This is playing in the background while Kayla is reflecting about her life and how far she’s come.
Hello, My Old Heart - The Oh Hellos - This also plays in the background while Chyanne drops the news of her Beta status to her family. Kayla, knowing what it’s like to be divided speaks to her as both Alpha and Omega and while it’s terrifying for Ben and Pedro, Chyanne is given the ability to feel whole again.
There were others and specific times at Phaux’s that probably had music, but while building that outdoor time, I sort of expected it to be more of a crowd setting. If you haven’t been to a car show, the ones that I used to go to weren’t exactly loud in terms of music? But more so about showing off your vehicle, chatting, pockets of music here and there, and revving engines. I’ve never been to one that The Fast and The Furious movies were based on but I’m sure it exists somewhere.
If I come across any others that I meant to add, I’ll pop them on in.
Now, I wanted to keep going on all of the work that I’ve written for Dreame, and I will get back to it, but right now I’m working with another platform. GoodNovel is hosting my story Howl at the Moon, Love there. It is extensively based around music and a side story that is based off of The Omega Witch’s world. All themes discussed there transferred over into another couple’s story and I am dying to talk about it. So that will be the next thing I chat about here.
Until then, happy reading!
